Pentecost
A sonnet
When heaven’s fire fell with a mighty rush
Of wind, when did the promised knowledge come?
Was it immediate? Was there a hush
When words once memorized rose in their sum
And promises like corn popped under heat
From Holy heaven’s breath and flame that day?
Now boldness clear and warmth and light do meet
In Him who touches lips a secret way.
With Love of God now poured into our heart
We feel the pulse of heaven’s own now beat,
And plunged into a shoreless ocean, start
To glimpse the boundless Love of God we meet.
The mighty Wind who came that day still blows
The Lord and Life-giver still life bestows
